The... 5 Underrated Cartoon Themes
Whenever you hear or read about people rating different cartoon themes, you always get the same cartoons. Transformers, Thundercats, the old Spiderman cartoon, Defenders of the Earth and GI Joe. Do not get me wrong, those are all amazingly great themes, but there are a lot of old cartoons that do not get the recognition they deserve. So here is a list of cartoon themes that I think deserve that mention.
5. Astroboy
Astroboy had one of the all-time great intro themes, that got you pumped for the cartoon, and it was an altogether great song. Include the end theme, and you have one of the best underrated cartoon theme combinations of all time.
Do those themes combined not make you want to watch this amazing show. And it really was an amazing show, diving into a massive range of themes from racism and hatred, to death and loss. Astroboy was one of those cartoons that could only be done back in the 1980's and still be relevant today. The early 2000's version is nowhere near as good, and I haven't seen the recent 3D version to comment on it, but have heard it is terrible.
Overall, a great theme for a great cartoon.
4. Starblazers
Holy shit, does that theme not make you want to suit up and shoot off into space? There is something about the Starblazers theme that is corny, but it totally works for the cartoon. Imagine if they had done something similar to this for Robotech, which was a cartoon with a somewhat similar premise. It would not have worked at all.
3. Mysterious Cities of Gold
It that not an epic song or not? Everything about that cartoon was brilliant, even the educational parts after the cartoon. This cartoon is one of those that worked on every level, and it told a story that you had to invest in, unlike the majority of cartoons these days. If you missed out on one episode, you missed out on a lot of the story and it kind of ruins the experience of the whole thing. That is why you had to sit down and watch this cartoon with deep concentration, and whilst you did so, you would be enjoying the fuck out of it.
2. Ulysses 31
Ever since my brother sat me down at his computer and played the first episode of this cartoon for me, I have been in love with this theme song. This show was off the air for years by the time I was born, but god damnit, it is one of the greatest themes of all time.
For the era that it was created, it was perfect. And the fact that the show only had a short version of it, and they actually released a 3 minute version is brilliant. It is like they thought, "Hey, this is a pretty good song. Let's only give the viewer a small taste of how good it really is and cut it down by almost 2 minutes."
Classic.
1. Battle of the Planets
Enough said.
